Alpha feto-protein (AFP) is a 68 kDa glycoprotein produced in the fetus during its development. Its levels during pregnancy has been useful to detect certain fetal abnormalitiessuch as spina bifida, anencephaly, down syndrome, Edwards syndrome. AFP is the main tumor marker to diagnose testicular cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma. Antibodies to AFP are routinely used to study this pathological conditions
