About
Dr. Nimesh is a viral immunologist with over 15 years of experience in translational immunology. He is heading the Vaccine Immunology Laboratory at the National Institute of Immunology, India. The long-term goal of Dr. Nimesh’s lab is to understand the immunological basis of long-lasting protective immunity and provide foundational knowledge for the rational design of human vaccines. His work has been influential in shaping the current understanding of a mechanistic framework and attributes of T-cell immunity to virus infection and vaccines. Dr. Nimesh’s research has been highlighted in prominent journals like Science Translational Medicine, Nature Microbiology, Lancet Infectious Disease etc. He has several patents on T-cell-based bioassays and the application of T cells in immunotherapy and vaccine development. His landmark contribution is the establishment of a “Human Immune Monitoring and T-cell Immunoassay” platform for advanced immunological human trials of vaccines and biotherapeutics. For his contribution towards national issues and to vaccine immunology, Dr. Nimesh has been recognized by prestigious organizations including, Martin Villar Fellow-Grifols, SA and World Federation of Hemophilia, he is a Fellow of ADVAC-Merieux Foundation, GTH Award-Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Early Career Research-DST-SERB, Ramalingaswami fellow-DBT, American Association of Immunologists, Mid-career immunologist-Indian Immunology Society, fellow-Molecular Immunology forum etc. Dr. Nimesh has substantially contributed to generating fundamental knowledge in immunology and providing immediate benefits to capacity building, policymaking and societal awareness on vaccines. Dr. Nimesh is serving as an expert in task forces, India’s Technical Advisory Group on Immunizations, the review board of international grant agencies, and the advisory board of biopharmaceutical industries
